Rob Falvo, Director of Bands at Bloom-Carroll Local Schools in Carroll, Ohio, deeply understands the importance of music education. As a professional musician and educator for over 30 years, Falvo teaches his students—which includes two jazz ensembles and all marching and symphonic bands spanning grades six through 12—the power of music. This combined with taking students on the road to hone their skills, and Falvo’s created an undeniable mix of musical development and unforgettable experiences.
“I have traveled with high school students with ETI for over 30 years to central Florida to take part in workshops, competitions and performances for my kids!” Falvo shared. “As a very young educator, I chose ETI and had such a professional experience with them on my first trip, that I have used them ever since.”
And while Falvo has been on numerous trips over the years with his students, there are always special moments and highlights that rise to the surface.
“Many students have never had the chance to travel, so I always enjoy watching them grow as young people and as musicians with their experiences on each trip,” he shared. “My students have learned so much from the workshops and performances on how to take their talents to the next level and what opportunities are available to them as they continue to develop their musicianship skills.”
Falvo has learned quite a lot through the years and shared his top advice for educators who are potentially interested in pursuing planning a trip with their students through ETI.
“Take the time to meet the staff and make sure to check with other educators for travel references!”
Falvo’s journey with ETI has been a joyous one, even as retirement soon approaches.
“Over the years, I have become friends with some of the staff, and it's bittersweet as I prepare for my last trip before retirement,” Falvo said. “I reflect back on many travels with ETI and appreciate all of their assistance they provided me to make so many wonderful memories for my students. They are extremely detailed oriented, able to make adjustments on the fly, and make the entire experience enjoyable and so much fun!”
