NEWS AND BLOG

Keep up to date on all the student travel news you need to know.

From the beautiful vistas on the National Mall between the Capitol to the Washington Monument, White House and Lincoln Memorial, students can admire many of the nation’s most treasured monuments and memorials while in DC. Learn what attractions—and performance opportunities—await!

Upon exploring DC, students will find a seemingly unlimited number of ways to see, feel and experience all that DC has to offer. Reflect and remember at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, catch a performance at Ford's Theatre, and explore the life and legacy of our nation’s 16th president at the Lincoln Museum. A visit to George Washington's Mount Vernon is also a popular option for many student groups.

Step into some fun with a DC ghost tour or a Shear Madness performance, an interactive, immersive, and irresistible show that puts audience members in the driver’s seat. No two shows are the same! Students could also cheer on their favorite knight with a Medieval Times Dinner Theatre show, a long-standing favorite.

Performance opportunities also abound in DC and could include many of the monuments and memorials, Capitol area, cathedrals, churches and parades. Some popular options include the FDR, Jefferson, WWII, U.S. Navy and Lincoln Memorials; the storied Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens; the U.S. Soldiers and Armed Forces Retirement Home; and the Washington Monument. Whichever option your students prefer, the perfect option awaits.

A can’t-miss opportunity while in DC is volunteering with DC Central Kitchen (DCCK), an iconic nonprofit and social enterprise that combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation. DCCK’s social ventures include serving scratch-cooked farm-to-school meals in DC schools, delivering fresh, affordable produce to corner stores in neighborhoods without supermarkets, and operating fast-casual cafes throughout the District of Columbia. Students can have an opportunity to work alongside DCCK’s devoted front-line staff and Culinary Job Training students to cut, chop, peel and prep fresh produce as they prepare balanced meals for the DC community.
