International travel is an amazing way to broaden students’ perspectives of the differences and similarities that exist between cultures. Educators see time and time again how travel abroad profoundly impacts a student’s life by expanding their horizons and changing the way they see the world. These experiences set students on a path to greater success in our global economy.
One such destination is the United Kingdom, full of eye-opening experiences across the pond that students won’t soon forget! Full of history, museums, one-of-a-kind experiences and more, the possibilities for an enriching itinerary are endless. Come along as we explore some of the options that await students!
HISTORICAL WONDERS
It’s no secret that the UK offers a bounty of history around nearly every corner. Let the history books jump off the page with visits to sites such as the Tower of London, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Stonehenge, the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum and more. Seeing the sights is also made into a uniquely British experience with a tour via double-decker bus! Don’t forget to step into the magic with various Harry Potter movie filming locations, along with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.
DELVE INTO BRITISH CULTURE
Students could explore all there is to learn about the UK’s culture, thanks to a number of activities. Included among them are walking tours through stunning cities like London, Edinburgh or Oxford. Also not to be missed are visits to literary landmarks associated with famous British authors—Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon and the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth, to name a couple. And of course, it’s not a visit to the UK without learning about and enjoying some afternoon tea!
MARVEL AT THE PERFORMING ARTS
Whether students take in a Broadway show on London’s West End, watch a Shakespearean play at the Globe Theatre or enjoy a performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, there’s no shortage of opportunities to witness greatness on the stage. They could even take part in some performance opportunities themselves! If music is high on your list, a visit to Liverpool—a UNESCO City of Music—is a must. The city’s musical legacy is strong, from being the home of the Beatles to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, which has been performing since 1840.
